CCEP is the world’s largest independent Coca-Cola bottler by revenue, operating in 13 countries in Western Europe and employing around 23,300 people. We create long-term sustainable value by making, selling and distributing the world’s most loved drinks and striving to deliver excellent service to our approximately 300 million customers.

Action on Sustainability

impacts on food production and ecosystems. In addition to these challenges, society is also struggling to maintain economic growth and ensure prosperity and opportunities for all of its citizens.

This is Forward

Together with The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) in Western Europe, we’ve created This is Forward – our sustainability action plan. Building on 10 years of focused work on sustainability, and developed through close consultation with our stakeholders, the plan places sustainability at the heart of our business strategy.

This is Forward is an ambitious plan that sets out three action areas on drinks, packaging and society, and three supporting actions on water, climate and supply chain, with a series of clear, measurable targets for each of these areas. Together, they provide a clear direction for how we intend to work with partners across our value chain to build a better future – for our business, for people and for the planet.

We are a European business and we invest, employ, manufacture and distribute locally, maintaining a strong commitment to the wellbeing of our communities. We believe that business success and sustainability go hand in hand. We want to grow our business in a way that manages our social and environmental impacts responsibly, and makes our employees and our stakeholders proud.

We’re listening to feedback from our stakeholders and responding to concerns from consumers, governments and non-governmental organisations on key sustainability issues. These include concerns about health and obesity with many people now wanting more natural ingredients, drinks with nutritional benefits and less sugar. We support the current recommendation by several leading health authorities, including the World Health Organisation (WHO), that people should limit their intake of added sugar to no more than 10% of their total energy/calorie consumption.

We also understand that we have an impact on our environment and the societies in which we operate. Single use plastic, climate change, water scarcity, waste and pollution affect everyone and have far-reaching

CEO message

At CCEP, we want sustainability to support every part of how we do business and our strategy is underpinned by This is Forward, our sustainability action plan that we launched in 2017, in partnership with The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC). Through the plan, we address key global sustainability issues where we know we can make a difference, in line with the priorities and concerns of our stakeholders. These include single use plastic, packaging and concerns about health and obesity. We are focused on our three action areas on drinks, packaging and society and three supporting actions on water, climate and supply chain.

The importance of This is Forward to our long-term strategy is reflected in our decision this year, for the first time, to release an Integrated Report, sharing progress on our sustainability commitments alongside our annual financial performance.

In 2018, we are proud to have achieved three of our targets, two years ahead of schedule:
- By the end of 2018, we had reduced the sugar in our soft drinks by 11.1% since 2015. This represents  a reduction of 15.8% since 2010
- 100% of our electricity purchased was from renewable sources in 2018
- By the end of 2018, we had cut greenhouse gas emissions from our core business by 50.6%

We continued to make good progress on our other sustainability targets in 2018. Highlights include:

Action on Drinks
- 45% of the products we sold were low or no calorie
- 160K tonnes of sugar removed from our drinks since 2010

Action on Packaging
- 27.6% of the PET we used was from recycled PET
- 98% of our primary packaging was recyclable

Action on Society
- 35.6% of management positions at CCEP were held by women
- €5 million spent supporting local community partnerships
- 11,955 hours volunteered by our employees

Action on Water
- 141% water replenished in areas of water stress
- 1.61 L/L water use ratio (1)

Action on Climate
- 29.7% reduction in total value chain greenhouse gas emissions
- 0.317 MJ/L energy use ratio (2)

Action on Supply Chain
- 88% of the sugar we purchased was certified as sustainable and fully compliant with our SAGPs
- 91% of our spend with our direct suppliers was covered by our SGPs

In November 2018, to mark the first anniversary of our This is Forward strategy, we launched a new volunteering policy that enables all CCEP employees to dedicate up to two paid working days a year to volunteer for a charity or cause of their choice.

We know there is much more that we can do and we know that we can’t do this alone, so please let us know your thoughts on what we have achieved and what more needs to be done.

After all, there is no going back, This is Forward.

Thank you for joining us on this journey.

This is Forward

Through This is Forward, we are taking action on six key areas where we know we have significant impact, and which our stakeholders want us to prioritise. In each of these areas we have made a number of commitments and taken action to meet our goals. Together, they provide a clear direction for how we intend to use our business and our brands to build a better future.

Our contribution to the SDGs

we also support the UN Sustainabile Development Goal 4, for inclusive and equitable quality education, the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5, for gender equality; and the UN Sustainable Development Goal 8, improving access to employment and work.

Our Action on Water commitments support the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6, by contributing to global efforts to protect the future sustainability of our water resources.

Our Action on Climate commitments support the UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 and the UN Sustainable Development Goal 13. We are committed to playing our part in global efforts to tackle climate change, in line with the 2015 Paris Climate Change Agreement.

Our Action on Supply Chain commitments support the UN Sustainable Development Goal 2, by promoting the development of sustainable agriculture, the UN Sustainable Development Goal 8, by seeking to protect labour and human rights, and eradicate forced labour and modern slavery within our supply chain and the UN Sustainable Development Goal 10, reducing inequality within countries.

This is Forward is our way of defining the role we can play in supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which provide the global roadmap for sustainable development. Our strategy is closely aligned with the SDGs, with each of the commitment areas supporting one or more of the goals.

Our Action on Drinks commitments support the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3, ensuring good health and wellbeing. By reducing the sugar in our drinks and evolving our recipes and portfolio to offer a greater choice of low sugar options, we’re making a contribution to the global fight against obesity.

Our Action on Packaging commitments support the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12, ensuring sustainable consumption by helping to substantially reduce waste generation through waste reduction, recycling and reuse and the UN Sustainable Development Goal 14, protecting and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources.

Our Action on Society commitments support the UN Sustainable Development Goal 11, by contributing to making the communities in which we operate more inclusive and sustainable. Through this work,
